Homeschooling in New Hampshire is considered an alternative to attendance at a public or private school. It is considered an individualized form of instruction that is governed by Chapter 279:2 of the New Hampshire Education Laws (2021-2022).

Eligibility: A parent is eligible under the Administrative Rules Ed 315 (2023) to establish a home education program for a child between 6 and 18 years of age.

Compulsory Attendance: The state has specific attendance requirements for children between the ages of 6 and 18 who are receiving a home education.

Notification: Parents are required to submit a one-time notification to the local school district when establishing a home education program

Subjects to Teach: Parents must ensure they teach specific subjects, including language arts, mathematics, science, government, history, health, the history of New Hampshire and US constitutions, as well as art and music appreciation.

Assessment Requirements: The state has specific evaluation and assessment requirements for homeschooled students.
