The students will begin by learning fundamental design terms and conceptualization skills including basic drawing techniques and then move on to graphic editing (Adobe Illustrator) and photo editing (Adobe Photoshop) software to produce their ideas in print. The students will produce a final project and present it in place of a final exam. This course fulfills an Art requirement.

Graphic Design II

Graphic Design II   1 semester   1 credit
Level:  123    SLE(s):  Problem Solving, Respect for Self/Oth

Graphic Design II will focus on print design and expose students to website design. While continuing to stress basic conceptualization skills, this course will help the students apply ideas to more complex forms of print media. Multi-page brochures, posters, CD’s and book covers are among the projects that the students will design and produce. Students will be exposed to more complex programs on the computer and be expected to master these tools. In Graphic Design II students will focus on creating a portfolio of specific print projects such as an ID package and a 4-color Ad.  The students will present their final print portfolio in place of a final exam.  Students have the opportunity to receive dual credit for this level which means that they may receive a college credit for successfully completing this course.

Prerequisite: The student must pass Graphic Design I with a minimum of a C average.

Website Design

1 semester   1 credit
Level: 012     SLE(s):  Eff. Comm., Respect for Self/Oth

Website Design is the final course needed to complete the Graphic Comunication Certificate Program.  It is also a standalone course offered to any student who wants to learn about the World Wide Web and how to publish online.  In Website Design students will design and produce a website for themselves which will include a digital portfolio. These students will start by learning basic HTML and progress to web authoring software (Adobe Dreamweaver). The students will learn about Content Management software, web-based animation (Adobe Flash) and get involved with the design and maintenance of the school’s website. The students will present their websites in place of a final exam.
