What's new at Conval Food Service

My School Bucks

Welcome back everyone! Conval Food Service is happy to be serving the students of the Conval School District healthy nutritious meals for the 2012-13 school year. We've got some exciting things happening for students this year.

SCHOOL MEALS JUST GOT HEALTHIER!
The big news is that you will see healthy changes in our school menus, due to tough new federal nutrition standards set by the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010. Not all of the changes will take place immediately, as they are phased in over a number of years. Some of the changes you will see this school year are:
  •  Age appropriate calorie limits
  •  larger servings of fruits and vegetables with a wider variety of vegetables, including dark green, red/orange and legumes
  •  more whole grains
  •  less sodium.

FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES PROGRAM

We are pleased to announce that four of our schools, Great Brook, Antrim Elementary, Pierce Elementary and Francestown Elementary have been selected by the New Hampshire Department of Education to participate in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program for the 2012-13 school year. The FFVP is a federally funded program which provides all children in qualifying schools with FREE fresh fruits and vegetables, to be offered at times during the school day other than breakfast and lunchtime. It is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and veggies as healthy snack options. Last year was our first experience with the FFVP and it was a great success. Students thoroughly enjoyed the varity of fresh fruits and veggies and were excited to try new things!

PES KITCHEN

Last year was our first year of operation for our brand new kitchen at Peterborough Elementary School. It was a great success thanks to the support of PES staff, students and parents. We thank you all and look forward to an even more exciting year for 2012-13!

GRAB N' GO BREAKFAST

Students need to fuel up with the most important meal of the day. Conval Food Service offers a Grab n' Go breakfast at Francestown, Hancock, Pierce and Temple Elementary Schools. We will also be offering the Grab n' Go at Greenfield Elementary this year. These quick and convenient bags provide students with a nutritious breakfast meal containing 2 servings of grain and/or protein, 1 serving of fruit and a milk. These fun packages are perfect at breakfast or snack time. Check with your child's school to see when the Grab n' Go Breakfast is offered.

Breakfast is available daily at all Conval Schools.

Have a wonderful school year!
